5 Seconds of Summer

5 Seconds of Summer began with three high school students posting cover videos on YouTube in Sydney, Australia in late 2011, a drummer from a neighboring school joining shortly after. They were loud and eager and playing guitar-driven pop rock that wore its influences openly, and when One Direction's Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson tweeted about their videos, everything changed almost instantly. EVERYONE'S A STAR! (Fully Evolved), their sixth studio album released in November 2025 on Republic Records, is the most adventurous chapter yet. The sonic inspirations this time include Gorillaz, N.E.R.D, and The Prodigy: distorted, synth-heavy, wired with nocturnal energy and a sense of forward momentum. The album's themes circle around fame, loneliness, and the strange experience of being a band that has lived inside pop culture for more than a decade while still feeling like there are rooms left to explore. Critics responded warmly, the record landing with generally favorable notices and reviewers noting how the band's ability to shift sounds between albums does not cost them the emotional directness that has always been their throughline. "Everyone's A Star!" leads the album with a title that holds its irony fully intact: in a world where everyone performs for an audience, what does it mean to actually make something worth hearing?
