Dear Maryanne arrived out of Boston in 2021 with something particular in mind: pop-punk that sounds like it was made by people who actually grew up loving the music, not chasing a trend. Formed around vocalist and guitarist Freddy Loeb, bassist Danny Yelin, and drummer Daniel Charrier, with producer Alex Allinson shaping their recorded sound, the band has spent the years since building a catalog that earns its references without leaning on them too heavily.
The 2023 EP "If I Wanted" introduced the band with a clarity of intent. Tracks like "Dickie Roberts" leaned into the DIY ethos that has always powered Boston's alternative scenes, music made close to the bone without a lot of room for pretension. Bandcamp was where they planted their flag early, and the response there signaled that the right ears were finding them.
"and Nothing Bad Happened," their debut album, arrived in October 2024 and pushed the project forward. Across its runtime, tracks like "Natty Ice" and the title song made clear that Dear Maryanne were not content to keep their range narrow. The album showcases the band's instinct for melody balanced against distortion, for a song that hits emotionally without sacrificing energy. UK music magazine Dork covered "Natty Ice" in a track profile, a recognition that the band's reach was extending beyond the Boston scene they came from.
"This is Going Well," released as a standalone single ahead of the album in September 2024, showed the same confidence. The title is almost funny in its self-awareness, a move that comes naturally to a band whose lyrics seem to understand the awkward comedy of feeling things intensely. There is a mid-1990s quality to what they do, described by critics as "the perfect balance between melody and distortion," an echo of that era's best pop-punk without being a reproduction of it.
In April 2025, "Tastes Like Your Basement" arrived as their second full-length, continuing a pace of output that shows a band with a lot to say and a clear sense of how to say it. Then in early 2026, Dear Maryanne appeared as featured artists on "IICKY," a track by Leisure Hour alongside Adjust the Sails, released through Counter Intuitive Records. That label's roster, including Oso Oso, Mom Jeans, Origami Angel, and Prince Daddy and the Hyena, maps closely to the emo and pop-punk world Dear Maryanne occupies. The collaboration signals a band finding their place in a wider conversation.
Boston has long produced artists who take the DIY path seriously, and Dear Maryanne belongs to that tradition. They make music that sounds like conviction, like a group of people who got together because they needed to and found that the songs were worth making. Freddy Loeb, Danny Yelin, and Daniel Charrier have built something real.
