ENHYPEN built their name around a punctuation mark. The hyphen, which connects words and bridges concepts, became the group's defining symbol: a representation of connection, discovery, and growth. Formed through the 2020 survival competition I-Land, which aired between June and September of that year under Belift Lab, the seven original members were selected by a combined vote of fans both inside and outside Korea, giving ENHYPEN an early identity as a truly global fan-made act. Jay is U.S.-born, Jake is Australian, and Ni-ki came from Japan, while Jungwon, Heeseung, Sunghoon, and Sunoo completed the original lineup.
They debuted on November 30, 2020, with the extended play Border: Day One, a record that generated 300,000 pre-orders. That anticipation was more than warranted. The lead track "Given-Taken" introduced ENHYPEN's aesthetic in a single song: smooth, eerie, subtly vampiric, wrapped in slick R&B-dance-pop with choreography as precise as the production. The debut was certified platinum, and the group's trajectory from that point climbed steeply.
Border: Carnival, released in April 2021, became their first release to top the charts in both Korea and the United States. Its lead single "Drunk-Dazed" pushed into chaotic, grimy pop-rock territory, showing the group's range and their willingness to sit in tension rather than resolution. The debut full-length album Dimension: Dilemma also topped the Korean charts, cementing a run of releases that kept building on each other.
2023 brought the Dark Blood EP, which introduced "Bite Me," a track that became the fastest fourth-generation K-pop song to reach 100 million streams on Spotify, achieving the milestone in just 90 days. The gothic, vampire-inspired concept that had threaded through ENHYPEN's narrative since "Given-Taken" found a sharp and exhilarating expression here. "Future Perfect (Pass the MIC)" added an authoritative, drill-influenced edge to the catalog, showing once again that the group's sonic vocabulary kept expanding.
ENHYPEN currently performs as a six-member act following a lineup change in early 2026, with Jungwon leading alongside Jay, Jake, Sunghoon, Sunoo, and Ni-ki. Their ability to adapt and continue making compelling music through that transition reflects how strong and genuinely collaborative their creative foundation is.
From "Given-Taken" to "Drunk-Dazed" to "Bite Me," ENHYPEN have written some of K-pop's most vivid recent chapters. Each title track has felt like a deliberate step rather than a pivot, the work of a group that understands where it is going and brings its audience confidently along. The hyphen in the name still means exactly what it always did, and the music keeps finding new ways to demonstrate why that word, connection, matters so much.
