JAEHYUN carries his art across multiple languages, in both sound and literal sense. Born Jeong Jae-hyun on February 14, 1997, in Seoul, he spent five formative years in Connecticut as a child, developing a fluency in English that would later shape the way he approached his music. He grew up in a household where creativity was woven into daily life: his father was music-loving, his grandmother a dancer, his mother the person who first sat him down at a piano. He attended the School of Performing Arts Seoul, graduating in broadcasting arts, before SM Entertainment's scouts brought him into the company in 2012. He joined the pre-debut group SMRookies in 2013.

His debut came in April 2016 as a founding member of NCT U, followed by NCT 127 in July of the same year. Within both sub-units, JAEHYUN has held roles as Main Vocalist, Lead Dancer, and Visual, a combination that speaks to both his technical range and his powerful stage presence. In 2023, he joined NCT labelmates Doyoung and Jungwoo as part of the newly formed sub-unit NCT DOJAEJUNG, whose debut EP Perfume arrived on April 17 of that year and became the best-selling debut album by an SM Entertainment act and the best-selling album by a K-pop sub-unit.

Well before his official solo debut, JAEHYUN had been quietly releasing music that showed exactly who he was as a standalone voice. Original singles including "Try Again" (2017), "Forever Only" (2022), and "Horizon" (2023) built genuine anticipation and gave fans early glimpses of the emotional depth he would eventually channel into a full project.

That project arrived on August 26, 2024: the studio album J, a self-titled debut that topped music charts in both Korea and China. The album's lead single was "Smoke," a track that showcased the husk and control in his voice with confidence and ease, while the pre-release single "Roses/Dandelion" arrived two weeks earlier and set an expectant, romantic mood for the whole record. J spans eight tracks, with songs including "Flamin' Hot Lemon," "Completely," and a "Smoke (English Ver.)" demonstrating his natural ease with English-language material. The record felt like both an arrival and a long-awaited confirmation.

JAEHYUN enlisted in the South Korean military in November 2024, serving in the Army Band, a placement that kept his musicianship front and center even during service. He was discharged in May 2026 and returned to the music world swiftly, releasing the single "99 Degrees" in July 2026. A slow-building, emotionally generous track anchored by piano and his velvet-smooth voice, "99 Degrees" lures the listener in before opening into something that fully commits to feeling. It proved that his time away had only deepened the command of quiet intensity that makes his best work so affecting.

From "Try Again" to "Forever Only" to J and beyond, JAEHYUN has built a solo catalog that honors the emotional intelligence he has always brought to group settings while expanding into something distinctly his own. He is an artist who understands that restraint and vulnerability, deployed with precision, can move people in ways that spectacle alone never quite reaches.
