Jung Kook came to music early and with total commitment. Born in Busan in 1997, he was in his early teens when he received casting offers from multiple entertainment companies, ultimately choosing Big Hit Entertainment because of BTS leader RM. That decision proved transformative. As BTS's main vocalist, lead dancer, and youngest member, he earned the nickname "Golden Maknae" from the group's fanbase ARMY, a tribute to his ability to excel across every creative discipline the group demanded.
His solo journey began with the fan-dedicated "Still With You" in 2020, a breezy, emotionally intimate track that hinted at a distinct artistry waiting to fully emerge. That artistry found further dimension in 2022 with "Left and Right," a buoyant, playful collaboration with Charlie Puth that showcased his natural ear for pop melody and his ease alongside some of the genre's sharpest craftspeople. That same year, he was chosen to perform "Dreamers" as part of the official soundtrack for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, a global stage that places an artist in front of the entire watching world at once.
The breakthrough arrived in July 2023 with "Seven," featuring American rapper Latto. The single announced his official solo debut with unmistakable clarity, debuting at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, the Global 200, and the Global Excl. U.S. chart simultaneously. The song's propulsive, shimmering production and his confident, dynamic vocal delivery made clear that his solo work was built for the widest possible audience. He followed it later that year with "3D," featuring Jack Harlow, and then in November 2023 released his debut full-length album Golden, a project that brought his solo singles together alongside new material and demonstrated genuine range across pop, R&B, and dance-oriented sounds.
In June 2024, marking BTS's eleventh anniversary, he released "Never Let Go" as part of BTS Festa 2024. Big Hit Music described the track as "a message to never let go of each other," a heartfelt gesture of mutual loyalty addressed to ARMY. The single carried warmth through every element of its sound, reaching the top twenty of Billboard's Global 200 and reinforcing one of the most consistent through-lines of his solo work: the relationship between artist and audience, articulated through music.
What makes Jung Kook's catalog worth returning to is the sense that each release comes from genuine investment rather than strategic positioning. From the tenderness of "Still With You" to the euphoric confidence of "Seven," from the collaborative chemistry of "Left and Right" to the devotion embedded in "Never Let Go," he has built a body of work that is commercially formidable and emotionally authentic in equal measure. He approaches each project with the dedication that first made him stand out as a teenager in Busan, and the results continue to resonate across every chart and every part of the world his music has reached.
