RM carries intellectual curiosity, emotional depth, and genuine musical ambition into everything he creates. Known to the world as the leader of BTS, his solo work has allowed him to pursue a more personal artistic vision, one built around thoughtful writing, eclectic collaborations, and an honest desire to document his inner life. From his earliest underground rap recordings to his most recent studio albums, he has consistently prioritized meaning over spectacle, and the results have positioned him as one of the most serious creative voices in contemporary Korean pop.

He made his mark in the mixtape era with releases that included "Joke," a track from his 2015 self-titled RM mixtape that displayed his technical command of rap alongside a gift for wordplay and self-aware humor. Those early projects laid the foundation for a solo career that would arrive in full with his first official studio album.

That arrival came in December 2022 with Indigo, a deeply personal debut LP that he described as a raw and honest presentation of his sensibilities and beliefs accumulated up to that point in his life. The album debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 and drew collaborators including Anderson .Paak and Erykah Badu. "Wild Flower," a sweeping collaboration with vocalist Youjeen, served as the lead single, centering themes of identity and transformation. "Still Life," his collaborative track with Anderson .Paak, brought warmth and groove to the record, and the album as a whole moved fluidly between genres, reflecting the genuinely wide range of his musical interests.

His second solo album, Right Place, Wrong Person, arrived in May 2024 and pushed further into alternative territory. Debuting at number five on the Billboard 200, it also made him the first Korean soloist to top the Billboard Rap Albums chart. "Come Back to Me" served as the lead single, a richly textured, introspective piece that exemplifies the album's blend of emotional honesty and sonic experimentation. "Neva Play," his collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion, brought a different kind of energy to the collection: a confident, percussive track that demonstrated his comfort working across stylistic contexts and with artists from very different creative worlds.

What ties RM's solo work together is an unwavering commitment to authenticity. He approaches each project as a genuine document of where he is creatively and personally, and the albums feel inhabited as a result. The breadth of his collaborations, the range of his sonic choices, and the care he brings to his lyrics all point toward an artist who treats every release as an opportunity for real growth. From BTS's stage to the summit of the Billboard Rap Albums chart, RM has demonstrated that a leader's most essential quality is the willingness to keep asking harder questions of himself. His solo discography is the most direct record of what those questions sound like when answered in music, and it makes for genuinely compelling listening.
